Located just outside Nanyuki at the foothills of the Mount Kenya forest, Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy is a purpose-driven sanctuary dedicated to the protection, rehabilitation, and conservation of wildlife. Founded in 2004, the conservancy sits within a richly biodiverse ecosystem and plays a vital role in preserving Kenya’s natural heritage.
At the heart of its work is the groundbreaking Mountain Bongo breeding and rewilding program, aimed at saving one of the world’s most critically endangered antelope species from extinction. Complementing this is a fully operational animal rescue and rehabilitation centre, which provides care for orphaned, injured, and rescued wildlife with the goal of reintroducing them back into the wild.
Beyond conservation, the conservancy is a hub for education and community engagement, hosting thousands of students and visitors each year through its conservation education programs. These initiatives foster awareness, inspire future conservationists, and promote sustainable coexistence between people and wildlife.
With a diverse population of wildlife and a strong focus on research, habitat restoration, and environmental stewardship, Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy offers a meaningful and accessible conservation experience where every visit contributes to protecting endangered species and securing the future of Kenya’s ecosystems.
